What is “The WoodsWoman Method”?
Woolfalk takes the lens of her WoodsWoman project and applies it to the museum’s permanent collection. She selected works that deal with speculative worlds, the cosmos, relationships between humans and nature, and the role of shared storytelling in building community.
Her WoodsWoman process materials are shown next to those selections. The museum calls the show both an exhibition and a laboratory, and says it will inform her commissioned installation for the renovated main lobby.
The museum says the artist will also run workshops with its Education Department.
Who is Saya Woolfalk?
According to the museum, Woolfalk is a New York-based artist who uses science fiction and fantasy to imagine the world in many dimensions. Her projects include No Place, The Empathics and ChimaTEK, which build the world of the Empathics, a fictional race of women who can change their genetic make-up and fuse with plants. She completed the museum’s AIM Fellowship in 2009.
What is the opening celebration like?
The museum describes a free party where guests can look at art, meet artists and organizers, and enjoy complimentary drinks and bites. It celebrates the museum’s whole fall 2026 season, not only this show: the other exhibitions listed are Beyond the Margins, Alex Strada’s Public Address and Lifelong Studio: Transcending the Form.
RSVP is optional, and drop-ins are welcome.
